Customer: Colombian/Male Program: 30-day pottery making in Seto Duration: 2012/5/01-2012/5/30 |
Message from our customer: My 30-day pottery making experience in Seto was a life changing experience.I am an Industrial Designer educated in New York City, Germany and England; Ceramics and tableware were an important factor on it. I knew from the moment I started studying history of ceramics that I had to step on Japanese soil and experience it once before I die. From the moment I contacted the program, the first day I met with Kato Sensei until the day I left Japan, it was nothing but joy and good times.I went to Japan in order to learn more about their approach to raw material processing, Japanese clays, design aesthetics and function, Tea Ceremony, Kintsugi and Seto’s ancient glazes. Kato Sensei was always there to answer all of my questions, he would even go out of his way to help me in my research. He is a wealth of knowledge, I feel lucky and honored to have met a Master Potter with a lineage of 14 generations of potters resting on his hands. My stay overlapped with Seto’s Akazu area Pottery Festival. During the two day event I had the chance to meet and see the kilns of pretty much all of the 30 pottery families of Akazu. It was a great chance for me to really understand the range of work of ancient and modern Seto. The Kasen Familly made me feel like home. I still miss the dearly. I believe I wont be able to express in words the quality of time spent with them, and the greatness of their hearts. Seto is a potters paradise, Explore Japanese ceramics is the bridge.
